Gotion High-tech Breaks Ground on “Lower Wonga,” One of Australia’s Largest DC-Coupled Solar-Plus-Storage Projects

Gotion High-tech (hereinafter “Gotion”) is pleased to announce that the Lower Wonga Solar-Plus-Storage Project in Queensland, Australia, for which the Company is responsible for EPC (engineering, procurement and construction), has officially broken ground.

This project is a large-scale energy project combining approximately 380MWdc of solar power generation facilities with a 281MW/843MWh energy storage system, and is one of Australia’s largest DC-coupled solar-plus-storage projects. Grid connection and the start of commercial operation are scheduled for the end of 2028.

The Lower Wonga Project is being invested in and developed by Lightsource bp, a global renewable energy developer, and is capable of meeting the electricity demand of approximately 126,000 households on an annual power generation basis. It is expected to contribute to expanding clean energy supply, enabling the effective utilization of new energy, and stabilizing the power grid in Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM).

As the EPC provider for this project, Gotion will be responsible for the full scope from energy storage system design, equipment supply, system integration, grid connection, through to commissioning. The energy storage facilities will adopt the Company’s “GOTION GRID 5MWh” energy storage system and will be equipped with in-house developed long-life cells to support long-term operation over 25 years.

In addition, this project will introduce Gotion’s proprietary DC-coupling technology, efficiently directing surplus solar power into the energy storage system to reduce losses caused by output curtailment, while improving investment efficiency and system operation efficiency through shared facilities. Furthermore, by combining standardized container design with advanced battery management technology (BMS), the project will support extended equipment service life and stable power supply.

The groundbreaking marks an important milestone in the international market’s recognition of Gotion’s technical capabilities and project execution capabilities in energy storage systems.
