Collaboration to Expand Initiatives in the Energy Storage Business
～Gotion Japan, DEI, and CO2OS Enter into a Business Alliance Agreement～

　Gotion Japan Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Gotion Japan”), Daiwa Energy & Infrastructure Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “DEI”), and CO2OS Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “CO2OS”) entered into a business alliance agreement on March 1, 2024, with the aim of establishing a collaborative framework in business areas including the development and operation, maintenance, and inspection of energy storage facilities in Japan.

　The introduction of renewable energy is accelerating toward the realization of a carbon-neutral society that achieves net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as a whole. At the same time, the expansion of renewable energy deployment is exposing the limitations of social infrastructure, including long-established power systems, and necessitating transformation.

　Gotion Japan, DEI, and CO2OS share the common理念 of contributing to the improvement of power systems and aim to deploy 1 GWh of Gotion High-tech energy storage batteries in Japan over a two-year period, targeting grid-connected energy storage batteries and energy storage batteries co-located with renewable energy power plants developed by Gotion Japan.

　Gotion High-tech is a leading global manufacturer of lithium batteries and operates large-scale energy storage businesses, including grid-connected energy storage batteries, in countries around the world, in addition to electric vehicles and residential energy storage batteries. It has a competitive advantage through the vertical integration of its supply chain, from raw material production to recycling, and has a track record of adoption in 10 countries. Gotion Japan was established in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, in March 2017 for the purpose of developing advanced materials for next-generation batteries. It began selling electric vehicle and grid-connected energy storage batteries in 2022 and has also invested in energy storage facilities since 2023.

　As a company specializing in renewable energy and infrastructure investment within Daiwa Securities Group’s proprietary investment division, DEI has actively and extensively invested in renewable energy assets, such as solar power plants and offshore wind power plants, both in Japan and overseas, as well as in the power transmission business, with an investment balance of approximately 170 billion yen as of the end of September 2023. In the energy storage battery field, DEI made an investment in a large-scale grid-connected energy storage battery project in Hokkaido in 2023 and has pursued a broad range of pioneering investment activities, including the commencement of operations in February 2024 of an energy storage battery project co-located with a solar power plant. Through this business alliance, DEI will further accelerate its investment in the energy storage battery field and continue to contribute to the resolution of social issues.

　CO2OS leverages its extensive expertise in solar power plant diagnostic services (technical due diligence) covering more than 5.5 GW to provide operation and maintenance services for 116 power plants/1.09 GW in the extra-high-voltage and high-voltage fields. In the high-voltage field, CO2OS also provides EPC and repair services, and most recently has been providing EPC and operation and maintenance services for pioneering projects involving the installation of energy storage batteries at solar power plants. Through this business alliance, CO2OS will accelerate the expansion of its services for grid-connected energy storage battery projects and continue to develop businesses that meet society’s needs.

• ・CO2OS: Provision of maintenance and inspection services for energy storage batteries
