Gotion High-tech and Japan-based Edison Power Co., Ltd. signed a strategic partnership agreement on March 15, 2023. Under the agreement, the two parties will cooperate to develop Japan’s energy storage and recycling markets, promote the adoption of renewable energy, and introduce Gotion battery products to the Japanese market.

At the signing ceremony, Edison Power Vice President Chihiro Kodama (front left) and Gotion High-tech Executive Vice President in charge of international business Cheng Qian (front right) signed the partnership agreement on behalf of the two parties. Edison Power President Toshimasa Yamada (rear left) and Gotion High-tech Chairman Li Zhan (rear right) also witnessed the partnership.

Against the backdrop of the global development of renewable energy and the revision of Japan’s “Electricity Business Act” in May 2022, Japan’s large-scale energy storage battery industry is entering a new phase of opportunity.

Under this partnership, the two parties will implement market strategies in line with market demand, setting a sales target of 1GWh in the first year and planning to increase it to 2GWh annually from the second year onward. Gotion High-tech will provide battery cells, modules, BMS and other products, while Edison Power will be responsible for market-side services, including the management of energy storage customers in Japan, EPC services, and the operation and maintenance of energy storage systems.

In addition, Gotion High-tech has been actively developing a comprehensive battery-cycle recycling system for many years, covering everything from lithium mine extraction and processing to the establishment of a recycling system for battery materials. In this partnership, as an internationally responsible company, Gotion High-tech will work with Edison Power to jointly establish a recycling system for energy storage batteries in Japan.
