2022.04.01Hefei Guoxuan High-Tech Power Energy, a major Chinese lithium-ion battery manufacturer, establishes a Japanese subsidiary in Ibaraki Prefecture

Hefei Guoxuan High-Tech Power Energy Co., Ltd.(English name: Hefei Guoxuan High-Tech Power Energy Co., Ltd.) is a lithium-ion battery manufacturer headquartered in Hefei, Anhui Province, China. Since its establishment in 2006, the company has manufactured and sold high-performance batteries for automotive applications and Energy Storage Systems (ESS), with annual production reaching 3.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in 2017. In China, the company also manages and operates renewable energy (solar and wind) power generation businesses.

The company has expanded its business internationally, with bases in the United States and Singapore, and has expanded distribution channels for its products in North America and Southeast Asia. In March 2017, it established Gotion Japan Co., Ltd. in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, with functions for next-generation research and development and sales. The company plans to employ approximately 30 people, enter Japan's new energy vehicle (NEV) market, and form technical partnerships with Japanese companies. It decided to establish operations in Tsukuba, where research institutions such as the National Institute for Materials Science and the University of Tsukuba are concentrated, considering it to have “the best environment for serving as a base for next-generation battery development.”

In connection with the establishment of its Japanese subsidiary, the JETRO Invest Japan Business Support Centers (IBSC) provided support including consultation regarding the establishment of the base, introductions to service providers (administrative scriveners and tax accountants), provision of market information, and introductions to local governments.
