Gotion Achieves Entry into the Primary Balancing Market in the Kansai Electric Power Service Area

Further Accelerating the Development of its Energy Storage Business in Japan

Gotion Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, “Gotion”) announces that the Misaki Town Energy Storage Facility, a project fully developed in-house by Gotion in the Kansai Electric Power service area, has completed the preliminary screening and various tests required to enter the balancing market.

This project marks Gotion’s first entry into the Kansai area and represents an important milestone for grid-scale energy storage business in Japan.

The Misaki Town Energy Storage Facility has a scale of 1.9 MW output and 10 MWh capacity and adopts Gotion’s 3.42 MWh energy storage system. In addition, the combination of Japan-made PCS (Power Conditioning System) and EMS (Energy Management System) delivers high levels of safety, reliability, and response performance suited to the Japanese market.

Furthermore, Gotion utilizes its in-house developed remote digital monitoring system and high-speed communication technology to enable the high responsiveness and stable operation required in the balancing market.

The future operation schedule is as follows.

• June 2026
   Scheduled to commence arbitrage operations in the JEPX electricity wholesale market
• October 2026
   Scheduled to officially enter the primary, secondary, and tertiary balancing capacity markets of the balancing market (EPRX)

In particular, the primary balancing market requires a high-speed response within 10 seconds. Through its high-performance energy storage systems and control technologies, Gotion will contribute to stabilizing the power grid.

Revenue Model Utilizing Three Markets

Gotion will promote improved profitability and business stability for its energy storage facilities by combining the following three markets.

■ JEPX Electricity Wholesale Market

Electricity arbitrage through charging and discharging by taking advantage of differences in electricity prices

■ Balancing Market

Providing frequency regulation services and securing revenue from standby capacity

■ Capacity Market (OCCTO)

Contributing to securing supply capacity over the medium to long term and generating stable revenue

By combining these multiple revenue opportunities, Gotion aims to improve the investment efficiency of its energy storage facilities.

Full-Scale Expansion in the Japanese Market

Since March 2023, Gotion has been promoting the development of its energy storage business in Japan. Following the Sakura Energy Storage Facility in the Kanto area, the Misaki Town Energy Storage Facility is Gotion’s first project fully developed in-house.

Gotion is also currently developing a second project in the Kansai Electric Power service area and a new energy storage facility project in the Chubu Electric Power service area, both of which are scheduled for completion and grid connection within the year.

Going forward, Gotion will continue to actively expand its business into areas including the Chugoku region, Kyushu, and Hokkaido, contributing to the adoption of renewable energy throughout Japan and the stabilization of the power grid.
